vLocPro2 (VLP2) Locator

Overview

The vLocPro2 (VLP2) utility locator receiver was designed to meet the tough requirements of the modern world. With more and more utilities being buried each day and also abandoned each day, it truly is a jungle beneath the ground. Today's locator must not only trace the path of a buried utility, it must assure the user that the locate is beyond the shadow accurate. The vLocPro2 (VLP2) is the tool that will give you the same results time after time with speed and, accuracy which leaves you confident in the decision to put the paint mark on the ground. The vLocPro2 (VLP2) series locator is the locator of choice for the contract locating professionals.

 

The vLocPro2 (VLP2) utility locator receiver has more than seventy active frequencies from 98Hz to 200kHz as well as several passive modes such as broad and narrow band power and VLF radio and SD (signal direction). Once the target line is located use the compass feature to quickly trace the line by following the compass line.

The accessory socket on the vLocPro2 (VLP2) receiver adds the accessory options of:

Transmitters

 A wide range of transmitters are available for use with the vLocPro2(VLP2) receiver.

 

  • 1 Watt Transmitter - The Loc-1Tx transmitter has one induction and three direct-connection frequencies ranging from 512Hz to 83kHz.  This transmitter comes in a soft carry bag with connection leads and ground stake.

  • Loc-5STx (5 watt) transmitter has multiple frequencies, signal direction and sheath fault locating modes


                

     

  • Loc-5DTx (5 watt) dual output transmitter* has multiple frequencies, signal direction, sheath fault locating modes and can connect up to four utilities simultaneously. (*North American market only.)

              

         

  • 10 Watt Transmitter - The Broadband Loc-10Tx Transmitter has multiple induction and direct-connection frequencies ranging from 512Hz to 200kHz. Additional features of SD (Signal Direction), fault find and multi-frequency transmit modes are included.  This transmitter comes in a soft carry bag with connection leads and ground stake.


 

 

Accessories

The A-frame fault finding accessory is used to detect ground faults on pipes and cables. In the case of pipes, the faults consist of coating defects. In the case of cables, faults are usually caused by insulation damage allowing the metallic sheath (or internal conductor) to become in contact with the ground.

The plastic non-conductive extension rods have both male and female threads at opposite ends to screw together and extend the length. With the signal clamp attached to the extension rod it can now be safely used on overhead lines and lines in trenches or manholes.

Sondes are battery powered transmitters used to trace the path of both non-metallic and metallic pipes and ducts. A receiver in sonde mode tuned to the same frequency can locate the position and depth of to the sonde.

The live Cable Connector is usable on live cables up to 480 V ac 60/50Hz. The Live Cable Connector operates on frequencies of 8kHz, 33kHz and SIS.  Note that the Live Cable Connector should only be used by approved operatives adhering to company regulations and work practices while using appropriate safety equipment and clothing.

The LPC separation filter is used to safely inject a locate frequency onto a live cable via a domestic power socket to trace the services from the building to the connection in the street. It is suitable for connecting to voltages between 100V AC and 250V AC.

Manage a fleet of utility locators with the free MyLocator2 desktop application. Configure a fleet of locators by turning on or off features, selecting which frequencies the user has access to and creating custom start-up screens. The MyLocator2 software also will transfer data from the locator to a host computer, perform firmware updates and save the receivers configuration and settings.

When the receiver is connected to a computer running the MyLocator2 software, the software will automatically search our database for the latest software for both the receiver and desktop application. The receiver connects to the computer running MyLocator2 by the USB cable supplied with the receiver.

  • Add a splash start screen to the receiver

  • Perform firmware updates for the receiver 

  • Transfer data from the receiver to a laptop or PC

Add Bluetooth communication to vLoc series receivers with the plut-in-play Bluetooth module.

 

Direct Connection Leads are used to apply the transmitters signal onto the targeted pipe or cable. The leads consist of a plug, which plugs into the transmitter and a red "hot" lead and a black "ground" lead. Direct connection leads are fitted with various size and types of insulated clips for different applications.


Standard Clip version is suitable for day-to-day normal usage.


Heavy Duty Clip version is more suited for the gas and water industries where the size of the targeted lines are larger and connections will be made to bell housings, fire hydrants and transformer boxes. The more aggressive teeth of the heavy duty clip also make it easier to connect to objects that are painted such as hydrants.


Telco Clip version is suitable for telephone cable where the user cannot access the sheath of the cable. The "bed of nails" part of this clip can be clamped onto a cable breaking the insulation allowing contact with the sheath.

 




Loc-5STx and Loc-5DTx 5 Watt Li-ion Battery Kits comes with a charger, power cable and Li-ion battery. The battery life with rechargeable battery is 30 hours at 1 watt and 6 hours at 5 watt output.


Loc-10Tx 10 Watt Ni-MH Rechargeable Battery Kit comes with a charger, power cable and Ni-MH battery. The battery life with rechargeable battery is 60 hours at 1 watt, 12 hours at 5 watt and 7 hours at 10 watt output.

Transmitter Vehicle Power Lead can be used to power the transmitter when connected to a target line at high output levels and long periods, this 30ft/9m lead will power the transmitter, it will not charge the transmitter battery. Compatible with the 10 Watt Loc-10Tx transmitter only.



Outdoor Power Supply 100-240V AC to 12V DC, 30ft (10m) lead to power the Loc-10Tx transmitter from the mains supply. This device will power the transmitter; it will not charge the transmitter battery. Compatible with the 10 Watt Loc-10Tx transmitter only.


Charge the receivers internal Lithium-ion battery with a Receiver Vehicle Charging Lead. This 12ft/4m lead makes it easy to stay charged up while on the go.

The solution to affordable real-time mapping utilities is in "VM-MAP" application from Vivax-Metrotech. Mobile devices connect the vLocPro2 Utility locators via Bluetooth. Push one button and store depth of cover, GPS coordinates, distance between locates and more. Download this data into a PC for analysis or email it. The data is compatible with Google Maps, Asset Management and GIS software
